TCL unveils new TV line-up

Chinese electronics giant TCL announced Thursday that its new 4K HDR Roku TV models featuring Dolby Vision technology are available in the US market starting May 26.

The six new models across two series - the C and P series - were first shown at the 2017 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January in Las Vegas.

Empowered by Dolby Vision high-dynamic range (HDR) technology and the Roku OS, the two lineups are expected to elevate TCL's US portfolio and drive the company's performance in the US to match its world rank as the third-largest TV maker.

The company said the six new models deliver Dolby Vision for powerful imaging, wide color performance to achieve color space coverage that's closer to the limits of human vision, and contrast control technologies to yield extreme contrast with deeper blacks and brighter whites.

The C series starts under $700 and will include screen sizes in 55" ($699), 65" ($1,099) and 75" ($1,999) 4K HDR TCL Roku TV models. TCL's P-series will be offered in 50", 55", and 65" screen sizes with the 55" model available for a special introductory price of $599 via pre-order on Amazon.com starting May 26.

"With more Dolby Vision as well as generic HDR content now available through the streaming content providers, TCL is delivering premium products with leading technology like Dolby Vision and the Roku OS at the perfect time," said Chris Larson, senior vice-president of TCL North America.

"Consumers are hungry for bigger screens with best-in-class picture quality and TCL is meeting both of those needs by leveraging Dolby's deep expertise in bringing advanced technologies from the cinema to the home in our newest TV models," he said.

The images delivered by the technology are up to 40 times brighter than those seen on today's standard TV sets, the company claims.

"When you look at large screen TVs, 60 inch and above, over 70 percent of the world's sales happen either in North America or China, so those two markets are necessary to be successful in large screen business," he said.
