An exhibition of watercolor wood print paintings, featuring the landscapes of Hangzhou's famous West Lake, opened in Ostrava, capital of the Moravian-Silesian region, the Czech Republic on Aug 6.

The exhibition, a cultural exchange event between the two countries, is sponsored by Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and the government of Moravian-Silesian region and organized by Zhejiang Art Museum with the assistance of the Chinese embassy in the European country.

Du Qun, deputy curator of Zhejiang Art Museum said this exhibition showcases Zhejiang's nature, culture and idyllic lifestyle, as well as the West Lake's history to Czech people through 23 pieces of paintings. In her address, she extended her hope that the event can help further deepen the cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and the Czech Republic.

The ties between the two countries are becoming increasingly close, according to Chen Jianjun, political counselor at the Chinese Embassy in the Czech Republic. The official said taking the exhibition as a good example, there could be more cultural exchanges in the future.

Jan Krkoska, vice governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region, said the exhibition marks a good beginning for the two sides' cultural communication.

After the opening ceremony, over one hundred local residents flocked to the exhibition hall and admired the artworks from China.

The exhibition will last until Sep 15.
