'Danish Way' offers innovative solutions

The first China International Import Expo is a new platform for access to the global goods and services market that will bring more business opportunities to enterprises in all countries, A. Carsten Damsgaard, Denmark's ambassador to China, said.

He said CIIE, which showcases China's further opening-up of its market, is welcomed by Copenhagen as it will not only drive China's growth for the benefit of its people, but also bring chances to foster the global economy.

China and Denmark, though separated by thousands of kilometers and varying in size and culture, both firmly support and deeply benefit from free trade and economic globalization, Damsgaard said, and a more open China will benefit Denmark and other global partners.

A national pavilion with the theme "Sustainable Living－The Danish Way" has been set up at CIIE in Shanghai, showcasing areas where Denmark and its companies have tangible and innovative solutions to offer to the challenges faced by Chinese society.

"The Danish presence at CIIE is proof of the strong involvement of many Danish companies in China, the importance of the Chinese market to Danish exports, and Danish companies' internationalization," Damsgaard said.

He said China is Denmark's sixth-biggest export destination, with shipments tripling in the past 10 years. In that time, Denmark's economic engagement with China has intensified and become more varied, now including more enterprises and products.

"We thus build on a strong foundation in order to increase our commercial cooperation even further," Damsgaard said. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Denmark. Damsgaard said it combines political attention at the highest level with frequent, expert-level interactions focusing on the best solutions to multiple challenges, including renewable energy, environmental protection, sustainable food production and healthcare.

"I believe that this can pave the way for even stronger Sino-Danish relations, mutual understanding, investments and trade," Damsgaard said.

He added that Copenhagen is looking forward to the next 10 years of bilateral relations.

"I am confident that in the next 10 years, the strong and multifaceted cooperation between China and Denmark will be further strengthened－both to the benefit of our two countries, and as a contribution to solving global challenges and achieving the (United Nations') sustainable development goals."
