Report on the patriotic deeds and hardwork of "Moving to the West" held in Xi’an

A report on the patriotic deeds and hardwork of "Moving to the West" was held on Dec 16 at Xi'an Jiaotong University in Xi’an, Shaanxi province in Northwest China.

"Moving to the West" refers to the migration of teachers and staff from Shanghai Jiaotong University with better living and working conditions to work and live in the relatively developing western regions in late 1950s for the sake of national construction.

The publicity activity was organized by the organizational department of Shaanxi provincial Party committee, the propaganda department of the provincial Party committee, the united front department of the provincial Party committee, the education work committee of the provincial Party committee and the provincial education department, in order to conscientiously study and implement the spirit of the National Education Congress, carry out in-depth activities to "carry forward the spirit of patriotism and struggle, build a new era of merit and career", and inherit and carry forward the spirit of "Moving to the West".

Six members of the report delegation including Zheng Qinghua, member of the standing committee of the Party committee of Xi'an Jiaotong University and vice president of the university, Pan Ji, a veteran comrade who moved westward and retired professor of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Guan Xiaohong, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xu Feng, a professor of Xi'an Jiaotong University, Lin Shujin, doctoral student of Xi'an Jiaotong University, and Chen Yuan, journalist of Shaanxi Radio and Television Station, delivered the most impressive stories of "Moving to the West".

Dong Xiaolong, secretary of the education working committee of the Provincial Party Committee, said that the spirit of "Moving to the West" is a symbol of the spirit of the times. It is not only the precious spiritual wealth of Xi'an Jiaotong University and Shaanxi Province, but also the brilliant portrayal of the patriotic and hardworking spirit of the intellectuals in the new era.

More than 1500 officials from Shaanxi provincial Party committee and government, representatives of some universities and colleges in Xi’an and the teachers and students of Xi’an Jiaotong University attended the lecture, and the report delegation will also be travelling to Yangling, Yan'an and Hanzhong cities in the province to deliver lectures.
