French musical Rock Mozart performed in Xi'an

"The First Popular French Musical Opera in the Universe", Rock Mozart, will be performed on five consecutive evenings from March 22 to 27 in Xi’an, capital of Shaanxi province in Northwest China.

After 72 performances in eight Chinese cities, the French musical Rock Mozart finally opened in the evening of Mar 22 in Shaanxi Grand Theatre in Xi’an, the opera’s last stop of its China tour.

Its magnificent French aesthetics, blending classical and rock and roll audio visual effects, opens a dialogue with Mozart spanning 228 years.

Rock Mozart is a French rock musical depicting Mozart’s artistic life. Bold rock music in classical Baroque style and modern performance techniques with a background of the beautiful stages of the European court reveal the timeless talent of a long-gone music master through a brilliant new interpretation that reflects the original aspects of Mozart’s life.

Starting from his youth, the play shows Mozart's opportunities, temptations, jealousies and hardships in the music world after he escaped the burden of being seen as a prodigy.

Through colorful rock staging his musical talent breaks through the shackles of preconceptions and removes the rust of age.

Some viewers said that the play even overturned their previous conception of Mozart's genius.

Rock Mozart made a big splash when it premiered at the Paris Stadium in September 2009, which was followed by successful tours around the world. During its tour in China, the play was sold-out on each evening.

After the first performance in Xi'an, many audience members said that it was their first time to see a musical. At first, they thought they wanted a quiet performance. But in the second half, they began to scream and cheer with everyone else unselfconsciously.

Rock Mozart is a play with a kind of French romance and strong lyricism, in line with the taste of young people, so that many young people cosplayed characters of the opera to watch the play, saying that Mozart's pursuit of a unique spirit inspired their own inner energy.
