Ministry: Foreign firms won't blindly follow 'political command'

Enterprises in any country will not disregard their own interests and blindly follow other countries' "political command", Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said on Thursday, after companies confirmed cooperation with Chinese telecommunications equipment maker Huawei will continue.

Panasonic made a "solemn statement" on Thursday that it is supplying Huawei normally, rebuking reports that it will cut parts of the component supply. British Telecom, parent group of telecom operator EE, said on Wednesday Huawei will continue to supply their 5G radio network infrastructure, Xinhua reported.

Those comments came after the United States barred Huawei from buying US technology and doing business in the US.

"Most countries have not forgotten the lesson of the French company Alstom, and have always been highly alert to the US government's acts of resorting to state power to crack down on companies in other countries, disrupt markets and obstruct mutually beneficial cooperation between other countries," Lu said.

The Chinese government will continue to support Huawei and other Chinese technology companies in deepening international cooperation, Lu said.

China hopes foreign countries will provide an environment that is fair, just, stable and predictable for Chinese companies, which is in line with these countries' ultimate and long-term interests, Lu said.
