Shanghai residents China's biggest red wine and cocktails fans

Shanghai residents love red wine and cocktails more than residents of any other Chinese city, according to data released by internet giant Alibaba Group.

Released July 4, the data generated from Alibaba's food delivery service, Ele.me, and lifestyle service platform, Koubei, showed that orders for late-night drinks in Shanghai increased by 100 percent in the first half of 2019, compared with the same period in 2018.

People in Shanghai made the most orders of late-night drinks across the nation and preferred red wines and cocktails.

According to the report, one Shanghai customer made a 6,152 yuan order on Ele.me for 25 different kinds of imported wine in the first half of the year, a Shanghai record.

However, not all cities accepted imported wine. For example, Tianjin made the most late-night Chinese liquor orders, while Fujian province ordered most beer, the report said.

The increasing demand for alcohol also boosted orders of anti-alcohol drugs.

Beijing ranked top for orders of the drugs during the first half of the year, with a total of 4,000 orders. Shanghai ranked second, according to the report.
