Mayweather not interested in rematch with Pacquiao

LOS ANGELES－Floyd Mayweather has "zero interest" in coming out of retirement for a rematch with Manny Pacquiao after winning their 2015 superfight, confidante Leonard Ellerbe said on Wednesday.

Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, told boxingscene.com that not even the prospect of another mega payday would tempt Mayweather back into the ring.

Mayweather earned an estimated $350 million for his points victory over Pacquiao, which remains the most lucrative fight in history, generating nearly $1 billion in revenue.

Pacquiao's long-time trainer Freddie Roach said last week he would urge the Filipino icon to seek a rematch with Mayweather after a frustrating loss in their first meeting.

While Mayweather will be ringside for Pacquiao's WBA world welterweight title challenge against champion Keith Thurman in Las Vegas on Saturday, Ellerbe said there is "no chance" of a rematch.

"Floyd has no interest," Ellerbe told boxingscene. "He has zero interest. He's been doing this all his life, and after a while you get burned out. He's given the sport everything."

Ellerbe said Mayweather is enjoying his retirement.

"He's very content," Ellerbe said. "He's living his best life. I just talked to him earlier today. We went over some business stuff. He's traveling, spending time with his kids, spending time with his family.

"He's doing all the things that he never got a chance to do because boxing has consumed his life ever since he was 5 years old."

Last week, Roach said he was still bothered by Pacquiao's loss to Mayweather, when the Filipino's challenge was hampered by a shoulder problem.

"Hopefully we can get Mayweather to come to the table," Roach said. "I would like us to have one more crack at him.

"We didn't fight a great fight that night. Manny's shoulder didn't help at all. He's had surgery since then and is 100 percent now. I would like us to fight Mayweather again because I didn't like the way we performed."

On Saturday, the 40-year-old Pacquiao, 61-7-2 with 39 KOs, will be gunning for his ninth world championship against the unbeaten Thurman, who is 29-0 with 22 stoppages.
