Anning puts best foot forward to maintain civilized status

Among the first batch of national civilized cities in Yunnan province since 2017, Anning has carried out various projects to create a better living environment and quality life for residents.

On Nov 10, Anning was awarded again as a national civilized city by the Central Commission for Guiding Cultural and Ethical Progress.

This year, the local government invested 117.95 million yuan ($17.87 million) in improving infrastructure and 4 million yuan in special funds to upgrade communities in an all-around way.

It has renovated more than 200,000 square meters of walls in old communities, set up a supervision team and opened three hotlines to solve problems quickly.

There are 960 volunteer teams in the city and 70,375 certified volunteers. The average service time per person is 31.4 hours. The city has built 124 public washstands, 179 modern public toilets and 18 modern farmers' markets

As of the end of October, Anning's newly added green area reached 404,498 sq m.

It has established a civilization practice center, together with seven subcenters, 100 stations and 507 practice points and carried out 13,304 activities serving the public.

In 2017, Anning was included for the first time in the list of the fifth National Civilized Cities, which is selected by the Central Commission for Guiding Cultural and Ethical Progress. This year, Anning welcomed the "big test" of a review of its national civilized city status.

Anning has organized a supervision team to keep an eye on key areas such as back streets, alleys, urban-rural junctions and old communities to look for gaps and deficiencies in the benchmarking table, and to supervise all responsible units.

The use of big data has further strengthened the city's civilized guidance. After implementing the national plan and setting up crosswalks, the main supervision of zebra crossings has realized "people complying with regulations and vehicles allowing people to cross". The full use of high-definition monitoring equipment has also strengthened the management of illegal parking.

Anning is also striving to restore historical and cultural relics, such as promoting its hot spring cliff stone carvings as key cultural relics, strengthening the research on and publicity of important historical figures and boosting the "two lakes and one mountain" natural landscape.

The Anning federation of trade unions launched a safe traffic competition with 166 teams and 3,493 private cars. Those who participated in the competition became volunteers for civilized transport. They not only achieved civilized travel, but also took the initiative to publicize traffic civilization and stop various bad traffic habits.
