Interventional medicine to take the spotlight at Nov expo

The 2021 Eastern International Interventional Medicine Expo will be held in Shanghai from Nov 19 through Nov 21 to promote the local development and innovation of high-end interventional medical devices, the event organizer said at a media briefing on Monday.

Exhibitors from home and abroad will showcase their latest achievements in materials and engineering related to interventional medicine at the expo, according to Donghao Lansheng Exhibitions and Events Co Ltd, the event organizer.

Ge Junbo, an academician with the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the National Clinical Medicine Research Center of Radiotherapy, said that interventional medicine is the third largest clinical discipline in the world after internal medicine and surgery.

"Interventional medicine is also one of the three major treatment methods for major diseases, such as those related to heart, blood vessels and tumors," Ge said.

"The medical approach has been highly valued by the domestic and international medical community as it causes minimal damage, takes effect quickly and has an ideal prognosis," he said.

Li Maoquan, chairman of the expo and an expert of interventional medicine from Tongji University School of Medicine, said that the event will feature eight exhibition sections and cover disciplines of interventional medicine in the area of heart, blood vessels, nervous system and tumor.

He said that the expo is expected to cover an area of 25,000 square meters and attract more than 300 exhibitors. Around 40 forums, conferences, news briefings and award ceremonies will be held during the event.

The expo is supported by a dozen medical institutions, including the National Clinical Medicine Research Center of Radiotherapy, the No 10 People's Hospital of Tongji University in Shanghai, and the interventional medicine branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association.
