In contrast to Beijing's towering skyscrapers, siheyuan courtyards in the hutong (narrow alleys) neighborhoods are full of plants, flowers and trees, much closer to nature. The most popular plants are vegetables including peppers, cucumbers, pumpkins and gourds.
