Chengdu prepares to host FISU Games

The FISU Games goes beyond a mere sporting event. It serves as a platform for young people from diverse backgrounds to communicate. The ongoing Chengdu FISU Games is set to make fresh contributions toward advancing cultural exchanges, assist mutual learning and foster a community with a shared future for mankind.

During the games, a variety of events are to be lined up to assist exchanges in sports, technology, culture and innovation among students from across the world. This platform offers young people the opportunity to learn more about diverse cultures within a vibrant and relaxed atmosphere, enabling them to deepen mutual understanding and foster friendships. Additionally, the Young Reporters Program column is designed to highlight topics of interest to students, encouraging them to engage in dialogue.

Chengdu FISU Games torch bearer and men's 110-meter hurdles champion, Yin Jing, has competed in three FISU Games events before. "For me, the FISU Games is one of the most beautiful memories of my life. We sing, dance, exchange gifts and establish deep friendships," he said.

He added that he thinks the FISU Games is more like a festival for students and hopes that the student-athletes participating in the Chengdu FISU Games can create even better memories.

Zou Jingyuan, the Olympic gymnastics champion, expressed his pride in the Chengdu FISU Games being held in his hometown. "I believe it is my duty to set an example and convey the spirit of youthfulness and perseverance," he said.

Zou hopes to achieve excellent results in the competition and extended his wishes that all the athletes will be able to showcase their talents and enjoy the games.

Volunteers play a crucial role in the games, providing valuable support and serving as ambassadors for cultural exchange. A total of 20,000 volunteers, recruited from 34 universities, will provide services throughout the event. With their enthusiasm, friendliness and professionalism, they are to showcase a vibrant image of Chinese youth.

Chengdu has also established 1,000 urban volunteer service stations. These are located in areas near the competition venues, greenways, business districts and transportation hubs. The stations are to serve as information centers where volunteers will provide details about the event and share knowledge about the city.

Alessandro Ceraso, an Italian student and volunteer for the Chengdu FISU Games, said: "I hope that athletes from around the world can deliver exceptional performances at the games, and that at the same time, they can explore the streets and alleys of Chengdu and bring back more diverse and interesting experiences to their own countries."
