Belt and Road Energy Partnership sees cooperation expand to 34 countries

The number of participants in the Belt and Road Energy Partnership has expanded to 34 countries, CCTV News reported on Thursday.

The coordination will focus on energy security, energy transition, and contribute a Chinese solution to global energy governance reform.

Since the inception of the Belt and Road Initiative 11 years ago, China has collaborated on green energy projects with over 100 countries and regions, according to an action plan on green energy cooperation among countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.

The action plan was released at the third Belt and Road Energy Ministerial Conference held in Qingdao, East China's Shandong province, on Oct 23.

China has contributed over 80 percent of photovoltaic equipment and 70 percent of wind power equipment for global energy low-carbon transformation and new energy development, said Hu Ming, head of the Belt and Road Energy Partnership Secretariat Office.

This has led to a cumulative 60 and 80 percent decrease in the average generation cost of wind and photovoltaic power projects respectively over the past decade, Hu said.

It is projected that the member countries of the Belt and Road Energy Partnership will collaborate to enhance green energy security capabilities over the next five years, according to the action plan.

They are expected to focus on innovative cooperation in key cutting-edge technologies such as hydrogen energy, new energy storage, and advanced nuclear power, while exploring the establishment of an international cooperation research platform for clean energy and strengthening capacity building in the green energy sector, said the plan.
