China seeks to address US concerns through dialogue, consultation

China hopes to work with the United States to address each other's concerns through dialogue and consultation on the basis of mutual respect, equality, reciprocity and mutual benefit, said Lou Qinjian, spokesman for the third session of the 14th National People's Congress.

China, however, will never accept any pressures or threats, and will firmly defend its sovereignty, security and development interests, Lou said.

Lou made the remarks at a news conference on Tuesday, when the US' additional 10 percent tariffs on imports from China go into effect.

"History tells us that China and the US stand to gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation," he said, adding that the steady, sound and sustainable development of bilateral relations is in the interest of both countries and meets the expectations of the international community.

The two countries should respect each other's core interests and major concerns and find a proper solution to their disagreements, Lou said.

The NPC stands ready to work through the exchanges between legislatures to deepen understanding and friendship between the Chinese and American people and contribute to the development of China-US relations, he said.
