A groundbreaking ceremony for the Gantsmod–Gashuunsukhait Railway, a cross-border transport link between China and Mongolia, was held on May 14 at Gantsmod Port in Urad Middle Banner, Bayannuur city, North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, marking a significant step forward in bilateral energy cooperation.

This project is the second cross-border railway between the two countries since the opening of the Ereenhot–Zamyn-Uud Railway in 1956, nearly 70 years ago. Jointly developed by China and Mongolia, the line begins at China's Gantsmod Port and extends to Gashuunsukhait Station in Mongolia's ?mn?govi Province.

Once completed, it is expected to handle an annual freight capacity of 30 million metric tons, significantly boosting the efficiency of energy trade and strengthening logistical ties between the two countries.

The Chinese section of the railway is being built by China Energy Investment Corporation and is scheduled for completion in 2027. It will connect with the already operational Gantsmod-Wanshuiquan Railway, enabling linkage with Mongolia's southern railway network.
