China to hold a gala in Beijing to commemorate V-Day

China will hold a gala at the Great Hall of the People on the evening of Sept 3 as part of the victory anniversary events, according to a news conference on Thursday morning.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Beijing municipal government and the People's Liberation Army attended the briefing on Thursday to present updates on the preparations for the upcoming events commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

A gala themed on remembering history, honoring martyrs, cherishing peace and embracing the future will be staged, said Lu Yingchuan, vice-minister of culture and tourism.

The gala will chronicle key moments from the eastern front of the World Anti-Fascist War, highlighting the Communist Party of China's role as the mainstay in the country's united resistance against Japanese aggression.

The production will honor the heroic martyrs, underscore China's dedication to world peace, and celebrate the historic victory of justice and the people. It will present a sweeping account of China's 14-year resistance while capturing intimate and inspiring moments from that era, Lu noted.

The gala will incorporate a variety of performance genres such as music, dance and theater to pay tribute to key historical figures and moments while expressing a forward-looking perspective on China's continuing development.

Through combining live performances, multimedia elements and immersive sound effects to intensify its expressive, visual and emotional impact, the production aims to achieve a grand, epic tone throughout the presentation.

Its performers will mostly be from the post-90s and post-00s generations.
