East China's Zhejiang province once again led the nation in the number of companies listed on the country's top private enterprise rankings, released by the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce on Aug 28.

The federation has announced the 2025 lists of the 500 largest private enterprises, the 500 largest private manufacturing enterprises, and the 100 largest private service enterprises. Zhejiang ranked first nationwide across all three categories.

A total of 107 Zhejiang-based companies made the 500 largest private enterprises, one more than last year. The province has held the top spot for 27 consecutive years. Zhejiang also had 109 firms listed among the 500 largest private manufacturing enterprises, unchanged from last year, and 20 firms among the 100 largest private service enterprises, up by one.

The three lists cover enterprises from all 11 cities across the province, with 145 unique firms after removing overlaps. The distribution shows regional concentration in key urban centers. Hangzhou led with 46 companies, followed by Ningbo with 32 and Shaoxing with 18.

Zhejiang companies on the lists are also expanding their global footprint. According to preliminary statistics, these firms have invested across six continents, including 47 in Asia (outside the Chinese mainland), 28 in Europe, 21 in North America, 14 in Africa, and nine each in South America and Oceania.
