China, Kenya deepen security and law enforcement cooperation to tackle regional threats

China and Kenya have reaffirmed their resolve to deepen cooperation in security, law enforcement and border management, beyond traditional economic and trade partnership.

Kenya's Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen said the collaboration between the two nations has evolved beyond infrastructure and trade to encompass vital areas of governance and security.

"Kenya and China continue to strengthen their socio-cultural and economic cooperation anchored on mutual respect and a shared interest in the development of both nations," Murkomen said.

"We appreciate China's invaluable partnership with our country on infrastructure development under the Belt and Road Initiative, among other projects," he said, adding that Beijing's support has been instrumental in advancing Kenya's modernization and development agenda.

Murkomen said the two countries are exploring ways to enhance collaboration in security infrastructure, border management, and the fight against transnational crimes, which continue to threaten regional stability.

In a bilateral meeting with Murkomen last week, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan reaffirmed China's commitment to supporting Kenya in building institutional capacity and strengthening law enforcement mechanisms.

"China will continue supporting Kenya to achieve its development aspirations and maintain stability," Guo said.

She said efforts are underway between the two countries to bolster cooperation in security, information exchange, and the use of technology to enhance public safety.
