UK ill-advised imposing unwarranted US-pleasing sanctions on Chinese entities

In an ill-judged and unwarranted move that promises to have far-reaching implications on relations between China and the United Kingdom, the British government on Wednesday announced sanctions against 11 Chinese companies for allegedly supporting the Russian energy sector and supplying equipment critical to Russia's defense sector.

London claimed the sanctions will exert more pressure on the Kremlin over the conflict in Ukraine. The UK should show vision and wisdom, forsaking short-term political maneuvers in favor of long-term stability and prosperity. For the sake of bilateral relations and its own interests, the UK should correct its actions and lift the sanctions against the relevant Chinese entities.
