Stable China-US relations paramount to global economy, Chinese official says

A senior Chinese official said on Sunday that the recent volatility in China–US economic and trade relations is not what Beijing wants to see, emphasizing that both sides agree that a stable relationship between the world's two largest economies also serve the interests of not only the two countries but also the world at large.

Li Chenggang, China's international trade representative at the Ministry of Commerce, made the remarks following the conclusion of the latest round of China–US economic and trade talks in Kuala Lumpur.

He said China has strictly followed the consensus reached in multiple phone conversations between the two heads of state, earnestly implementing the outcomes of economic and trade consultations, and carefully safeguarding the "hard-won relative stability" in bilateral relations.

"The recent fluctuations and disruptions are not what China wishes to see," Li added.

The talks in Kuala Lumpur have been in-depth, candid and constructive, and the results will be subject to domestic approval from both sides, he added.

Going forward, China and the United States will further strengthen communication and exchanges, and make active efforts to promote the stable and healthy development of bilateral economic and trade relations, Li said.
