Technology focused on elder care debuts at Beijing International Aging Industry Expo

New technology designed to empower the health and wellness industries to better care for the elderly and help them lead an easier life, is being showcased at the ongoing 11th Beijing International Aging Industry Expo, which will conclude today.

One such device — an uninterrupted continuous blood pressure monitoring terminal, based on flexible sensors and artificial intelligence technologies — is able to continuously and accurately obtain radial artery blood pressure, and provide an AI-assisted diagnosis and management services.

"The device is comfortable to wear, and won't interfere with my daily life," a 72-year-old visitor surnamed Li, said. "The data of my blood pressure can be uploaded to my phone, which is convenient."

An intelligent digital health terminal can generate 3D replica of a patient's body — based on the users' multi-dimensional health data, evaluate users' health status, disease risks, and other indicators — and dispense personalized diet and exercise plans, and physical examination suggestions, providing precise and personalized health management.

During the treatment process, an AI-assisted intelligence platform can quickly create professional AI medical assistants that support imaging diagnosis, health management, and other scenarios, significantly improving diagnosis and treatment efficiency.

To ensure the overall wellness of elderly patients, technology-empowered aging friendly living spaces, professional clubs, and healing gardens are designed to meet senior citizens' demand for a high-quality life.

"With the collaborative innovation of service chain and research and development chain, we are using technologies to help build an aging friendly society," Feng Xiaohua, chief operating officer of the intelligent healthcare division, vice-president of BOE, said.

"The essence of aging adaptation is to empower human dignity with technology," Wang Peng, an associate research fellow at the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, said. "We need to avoid technological supremacy and always place the needs of the elderly at the core. Through flexible design, scenario-based services, and ecological collaboration, technology can become a bridge connecting generations and transmitting care, ultimately achieving a value leap from 'elderly care' to 'enjoying the elderly life'."
