Zhuhai orchestra celebrates cultural heritage at Beijing concert
Under the baton of conductor Ge Ya'nan, the Zhuhai Chinese Orchestra performed a concert featuring the latest piece by composer Wang Danhong, titled From the Sea, at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing on Saturday.
The composition incorporates musical elements from Guangdong province's regional culture, depicting scenes from the area's natural landscapes to its local traditions. Instruments such as the nanxiao, a type of bamboo flute popular in the Fujian area of southern China, and the Chaozhou zheng, a Chinese plucked string instrument, are featured in the piece.
A highlight of the composition is the use of percussion instruments in the fifth movement, titled Mountain Song, which portrays the vibrant and joyful life of the Hakka people living in regions such as Fujian, Jiangxi, and Guangdong provinces.
The concert also celebrated the 26th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland.
