Beijing appreciates international support for one-China principle

Beijing on Wednesday expressed appreciation to countries and organizations that reaffirmed their continued adherence to the one-China principle and supported China in safeguarding its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, after it took countermeasures and conducted military drills around the Taiwan island.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian made the remarks at a daily news briefing after dozens of countries, including Cuba, Pakistan, Russia, Serbia, Venezuela and Zimbabwe, had expressed their support for China's position since Beijing announced the beginning of military exercises around Taiwan.

According to Lin, the countries concerned have reiterated that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory and emphasized that the Taiwan question is China's internal affair. He said they also remained opposed to any form of "Taiwan independence", as well as external interference in China's internal affairs.

Lin described China's resolve to safeguard its national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity as unwavering, as was its commitment to pursuing national reunification and protecting national interests.

China will also be resolute in containing "Taiwan independence" separatist forces and in combatting their collusion with external forces to undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, Lin added.

He warned that any provocative actions that "cross the line" on the Taiwan question will inevitably be met with a firm and decisive response by China.

Lin added that any malicious attempts made to obstruct China's reunification are doomed to fail.
