China calls for closer economic ties with Peru

China and Peru should view their economic and trade cooperation from a strategic perspective and work together to promote cooperation in this regard, China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin said on Monday.
Speaking at the China-Peru Trade and Investment Cooperation Forum in Lima, the capital of Peru, Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, praised the stable development of bilateral ties and expressed China's readiness to work with Peru to advance their partnership of friendly cooperation.
China has become Peru's second largest trading partner and export market, and Peru has become one of the major destinations of Chinese investment in Latin America, he said.
Jia said the free trade agreement between China and Peru, due to take effect next year, will advance bilateral economic and trade cooperation and contribute to the rapid development of the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
Jia said the Chinese and Peruvian economies are complementary to each other and have great potential for cooperation. Deepening the mutually beneficial cooperation serves the fundamental interests of both countries, he said.
He called for efforts to further facilitate trade and boost mutual investment.
On the same occasion, Peruvian First Vice President Luis Giampietri said the free trade agreement between Peru and China would bring new opportunities for expanding the reciprocal cooperation and that Peru is ready to strengthen cooperation with China in all fields to boost bilateral ties.
Jia arrived in Lima on Sunday for a two-day visit to Peru, the second leg of his four-nation tour. Jia, who has visited the Philippines, will also travel to Ecuador and Brazil after his stay in Peru.
