China to invest 716.1b yuan in agricultureBy Jiang Wei (chinadaily.com.cn)
Updated: 2009-03-05 10:21 Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao pledged in his government work report to invest 716.1 billion yuan ($104.72 billion) in agriculture, farmers and the rural areas in 2009, a year-on-year increase of 120.6 billion yuan. The investment would be used for improvement or construction of rural public facilities, expanding agricultural subsidies to farmers, subsidies for the purchase of agricultural machinery and tools, and popularizing agricultural science and technologies.
