Business climate index up 4.2 points in 4th quarter

China's business climate index for the fourth quarter of 2007 was at 143.6, up 4.2 points from a year earlier, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said.

In the third quarter, the reading was 144.7.

The business climate index for State-owned enterprises was 144.0 and the index for private firms was at 138.4, both rising year-on-year, the NBS said, without providing comparative figures.

The index for foreign-invested firms was 148.5, the bureau said.

The index for large enterprises in the fourth quarter was 165.2, and that for small firms was 119.7.

The index for the property developers stood at 140.3, it said.
