Shizuishan, a coal city to transform

Wang Yongyao, mayor of the city of Shizuishan in Northwest China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region，and a deputy to the National People's Congress, the top legislature.

There was a rock along the Yellow River, like the mouth of an eagle. A lot of people used the rock to fasten ships and water transportation and trade was very busy. As a result, the city was named Shizuishan, which literally means "a rock like the mouth of an eagle".

The heavy industry accounts for a big proportion of Shizuishan's economy. The industrial added value of the city makes up more than 60 percent of the Gross Domestic Product of Ningxia Hui autonomous region. Coal, metallurgy and coking are pillar industries for the city.

Shizuishan city is an industrial city that came into being during coal mining and processing. As a result, problems such as low efficiency and pollution have emerged. To solve all these problems, the city needs to transform. It's imminent. If we do not take the initiative to transform or if we are too slow, we may follow the old path. There will be no way out if we do not transform.
