Oversupply of materials caused by construction slump

China's demand for aggregates, including crushed stone and sand, as well as tailings and construction-waste materials, will drop significantly as the country’s economy slowed down, according to an industrial insider.

Citing a survey covering the industry along the Yangtze River, Li Hua, deputy secretary-general of China Aggregates Association, said there had been an oversupply of aggregate in the first half of the year.

"A growing number of companies engaged in the industry are facing a tough challenge in the near future as China has attached more importance to quality growth of the economy and environmental protection," said Li.

According to Li, China’s consumption of aggregate increased from 12 billion tons in 2013 to 15 billion tons in 2014.

However, demand fell in the past few months, according to Li

"Companies should introduce measures to cope with the falling demand by improving processing technologies and attaching more importance to environment protection," said Li.

To help domestic companies improve production efficiency by upgrading technologies, an industrial exhibition will be held in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province.

The second International Aggregate, Tailing and Construction-waste Technology and Equipment Exhibition, organized by the China Aggregates Net and the Guangdong Grandeur International Exhibition Group, will be held in March.
