China, Kazakhstan eye close financial co-op

BEIJING - China and Kazakhstan on Friday issued a joint statement, agreeing to keep close cooperation in the financial field.

According to the statement, both sides spoke highly of the two governments' prompt and efficient measures to cope with the global financial crisis.

Both countries are to strengthen financial supervision, share experience and information, enhance capabilities to withstand financial risks, and actively implement bilateral cooperation projects in trade and energy fields.

The international financial crisis brought a severe impact on all countries' economic development and people's livelihoods, said the statement.

The two countries called for more international cooperation in financial supervision to stop the further spread of the crisis.

The international community should promote reforms in financial organizations, and improve developing nations representativeness and their right to speak in those organizations, according to the statement.

The regional financial cooperation should be encouraged and the international money system should be improved, the statement said.

The joint statement was issued during Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev's state visit here from April 15 to 19 at the invitation of Chinese President Hu Jintao.

President Nazarbayev was in the city of Sanya now for the 2009 meeting of the Bo'ao Forum for Asia (BFA) in south China's Hainan Province.

This is Nazarbayev's second state visit to China since he was re-elected as the Kazakh President in 2005.
