Kungfu kick

A total of 150 kungfu pottery sculptures will be showcased in the Expo Garden from Aug 16 to 22. Each sculpture is a life-size figure of the legendary actor Bruce Lee, who is kungfu kicking a world-famous building or icon, including the White House, the Sydney Opera House and the Guggenheim Museum. Fifty of the sculptures are traditional kiln-fired ceramics, while the rest are made from stainless steel and ceramics.

Win and drive

The most expensive prize at Expo 2010 Shanghai will be handed out on Oct 30 by the Suzhou Pavilion. One lucky visitor to the pavilion will be presented with a Roewe 750 car, which is worth about 200,000 yuan. The visitor will also receive a free five-day self-drive trip in Suzhou.

Free read

Some 15 newspapers, including China Daily, Wen Hui Bao, Xinmin Evening News and China Business News, started distribution in the Expo Garden during the first week of August. The newspapers will be distributed free at information desks, restaurants and staff canteens. Visitors waiting outside popular pavilions will now be able to catch up on current events inside the Expo Garden and beyond.

About 20 photographers participated in the launch of a photography competition organized by the China Shipping Pavilion, based on the theme "Shipping makes a Better City". Most of the participants are staff of the Jiangnan Shipyard Group, many of who are members of China Photographers Association and Shanghai Photographers Association.

Coke awards

An award ceremony was held in the Coca-Cola Pavilion on Aug 12 for winners of 129 environmental projects from all over the country. Water conservation experts, together with Expo personalities and Coca-Cola college student reporters, toured the Expo Garden from Aug 11 to 13 giving water conservation tips.

Gold award

The commissioner-general of the DEVNET Pavilion, Gao Guoqiang, presented a Millennium Gold Award to Xiamen Youbide Industry & Trade Co Ltd for its carved lacquerware and furniture. The enterprise, an official partner of the United Nations DEVNET Pavilion, provides and exhibits lacquer furniture and carved lacquer art in the pavilion. Its lacquer art has won many prizes in arts and crafts expositions in China and overseas, and is often presented as state gifts to visiting leaders.
