Efforts continue for Korean denuclearization

BEIJING - China will continue in concerted efforts with the international community to push for the Korean Peninsula's denuclearization, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Thursday.

Hua Chunying made the remarks at a regular press conference here in response to a question on a visit to the United States by Wu Dawei, China's special representative for Korean Peninsula affairs.

Wu, who started the five-day visit last Sunday, met with Glyn Davies, the U.S. special representative on issues concerning the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, and Wendy Sherman, U.S. Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs. They exchanged candid and in-depth views on safeguarding peace on the Peninsula, according to Hua.

During the visit, Wu and his U.S. hosts agreed that it is in the interests of both countries and other nations in the region to safeguard peace and stability and realize denuclearization on the Peninsula, noted the spokeswoman.

Hu added that both sides also agreed to maintain communication and coordination on related issues.

The Chinese side has, taking into consideration the general situation of safeguarding peace and stability on the Peninsula, kept communication with parties concerned, she said.
