Heavy rain lashes East China as tropical storm Fung-Wong approaches

HANGZHOU?- Heavy rain lashed the coastal areas of East China's Zhejiang province Sunday as tropical storm Fung-Wong approached.

The 16th typhoon (tropical storm level) this year is expected to make landfall in the southwest coast of Taiwan on Sunday and continue to move north to the coastal areas in the provinces of Fujian and Zhejiang.

As of 8 am, Fung-Wong was centered 90 km southwest of Taiwan's Kaohsiung, and 790 km south of Zhejiang's Taizhou city, packing wind as strong as 28 meters per second.

More rain is expected in the east areas of Zhejiang through Monday.

Fung-Wong has killed at least five people in the northern parts of the Philippines, including Metro Manila, Philippines' state disaster management agency has said.
