If the security situation worsens in Afghanistan during the election, the security situation in China's northwest could also be negatively affected. The East Turkistan Islamic Movement, a terrorist group many of whose members were trained by Al-Qaida in Afghanistan, may take advantage of the situation in that country to launch terror attacks in China.
