Mercedes-Benz GLA SUV - World-Class Versatility, Local Sensibility

Representing Mercedes-Benz's strong China-produced portfolio, two SUV models, the GLA 260 4MATIC and GLA 220 4MATIC, arrived in Shanghai to reinforce the already strong Mercedes-Benz SUV families.

Unsurprisingly, then, both boast a range of features sure to endear them to local customers.

These improvements begin under the bonnet, where both models set new benchmarks in the segment in terms of power and performance.

In particular, the GLA 260 4MATIC's powerful 2.0 L turbo petrol direct injection engine boasts power of 155 kW (211 hp), peak torque of 350 Nm. Also impressive is the China-exclusive GLA 220 4MATIC, whose own 2.0 L turbo petrol direct injection engine generates up to 135 kW (184 hp) of power and a peak torque of 300 Nm.

The GLA 220 4MATIC happens to be the first compact SUV at its price level to be equipped with all-wheel drive, which adjusts driving torque distribution between the front and rear axles on demand in response to road conditions.

With a commitment to "Made in China, for China", Mercedes-Benz says it also designed the interior with the preference of local customers in mind. This is seen in both models' adjustable power front seats, which come with memory and electric heating as standard. All seats are wrapped in ARTICO leather with perforations on the backrest to enhance the visual impact.

The GLA 260 4MATIC and 220 4MATIC also feature various safety systems, such as COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST PLUS that deeply enhances additional protection, and make the GLA well suited for driving on either the highway or off-road.

The premiere German automaker is confident that the locally-produced GLA SUV's variant models will satisfy Chinese customers' demands and significantly boost the market performance of its China-made products.

Representing all levels of the Mercedes-Benz portfolio, these vehicles put on a show on Monday while kicking off the company's product offensive in 2015. But of course, if history is any indication, Auto Shanghai is only the beginning.

Fans of Mercedes-Benz should expect even more in the coming months as the automaker continues to find its stride, shining brightly in the world's most important auto market.
