Li Jinyong: Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine

He has not only explored and consummated the system of TCM classical theory, but also systematized the medical theories scattered in ancient TCM books in history. He has done profound research on the following medical classics: Plain Questions, Spiritual Pivot, Classic of Medical Difficulties, A-B Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Grand Simplicity of the Yellow Emperor’s Internal Canon of Medicine, Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases, Synopsis of Golden Chamber, Shennong’s Classic of Matrices Medica, Handbook of Prescriptions for Emergency, Newly Revised Materia Medica, Essential Recipes for Emergent Use Worth A Thousand Gold, A Supplement to Recipes Worth A Thousand Gold, Silk Books from a Han Tomb at Mawangdui and classics covering TCM knowledge in the Zhou, Qin and Western and Eastern Han dynasties, especially The Yellow Emperor's Internal Canon of Medicine, The Synopsis of Golden Chamber and Classic of Medical Difficulties. In his research, he classified them into different categories with specific topics, cut down the redundant, supplemented the defected, manifested the obscure, corrected the wrong, verified the difficult, preserved the uncertain, and in the meantime put forward his new understandings.

From 1978 to 1980, as a specially-invited expert, he joined the collective refereeing and finalizing work of altogether seven ancient medical books’ collation and annotation under the Ministry of Health's key research projects. The seven books are Plain Questions of the Yellow Emperor’s Internal Canon of Medicine, Spiritual Pivot of the Yellow Emperor’s Internal Canon of Medicine, Classic of Medical Difficulties, A-B Classic of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Classic of Pulse, General Treatise on Causes and Manifestations of All Diseases, Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion. He has published dozens of academic monographs, including Reading Experience of Medical Books, Essays on Reading of Ancient Medical Books, A Research on Ancient Medical Books, Exegesis on the Yellow Emperor's Internal Canon of Medicine and A Comprehensive Collection of Speeches, Proposals and Notes about TCM.
