Putrefying pigs hog public bus seats

In a tale from the all creatures file, a herd of fat pigs - about 220 of them - boarded public buses in Gaozhou in Guangdong Province last week to take a final ride to Zhongshan.

The bus was a "sleeper" but turned out to be a "stinker." It was supposed to carry 32 human passengers, but instead transported its cargo of pigs in iron cages, along with 16 ill-advised passengers who suffered throughout the journey from both the smell and howls of the pigs.

When police discovered the abnormal means of transportation for the farm animals on a bus meant for civilians the excuse given was the shortage of freight buses. They were told there was a large demand for pigs because local restaurants were preparing dishes for Tomb-Sweeping Day, the Information Times reports.

It is a tradition for Chinese to worship and commemorate their late relatives or friends on the Tomb-Sweeping Day in the early April.

The pigs were likely unaware of this tradition or their destiny.
