London Olympic team shocked by blasts
Just hours after the elation of winning the 2012 Olympics, the London delegation was shocked by Thursday's news that simultaneous explosions had ripped through the city, producing chaos and casualties. "I'm totally distraught," said Ken Mills, chief executive of London's bid team. The blasts in London's subway and a double-decker bus, which resulted in the city's public transport network being shut down, showed that "no city in the world can escape terrorism these days," Mills said. "Even London, that has probably the best and most sophisticated security services in the world finds it difficult to deal with these sorts of attacks," he said. The London contingent in Singapore was "completely and utterly devastated," he said. "This is our town, our city, our home," Mills said. "We're praying for the people who have been affected." Mills said he'd be departing soon for London with Mayor Ken Livingstone and Sebastian Coe, leader of the team that won Wednesday's vote to host the 2012 Games. Neither Livingston nor Coe made any immediate comment about the blasts.
