Date of new round of six-party talks pending

The date of the upcoming round of six-party talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue is yet to be decided, said Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei here Sunday.

The fifth round of negotiation was originally set for early November, yet all the parties concerned are still discussing about the specific date, said the Chinese chief negotiator.

"All the parties will hold consultations on the implementation of all principles and agreements stated in the Joint Statement reached at the fourth round of the talks," said Wu.

"The Chinese side has kept close contacts with the five other parties," he told the press on the sidelines of the Joint Study Convention on East Asia Cooperation, which opened here Sunday morning.

China hosted the previous four rounds of the talks. In the last round, which ended on Sept. 19, China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the United States, the Republic of Korea, Russia and Japan issued a six-point statement on a nuclear weapon-free Korean Peninsula.
