Environmental Protection

Changchun sticks to the strategy of continuous development and implements "Blue Sky, Clear Water and Green Land" project. The ability of anti industrial pollution has been strengthened. The processing of rates of industrial waste gas, waste water and solid wastes reached 93%, 95% and 100% respectively. By the end of 2001, a total area of 149.2 square kilometers of dust and smog control, and the standard noise control area of 92.6 square kilometers have been built.

New progress has been made in ecological model area construction. Three national level ecological model areas, such as Jingyuetan Tourist Economic Development Zone, and provincial level ecological model area of Yushu City have been built. The municipal environmental quality has been further improved. Pollutant rate in the air has been better than the year before. 100% of drinking waters are of and above the standard, and the city's surface water quality has been 100% up to the standard.

Virescence

Changchun's virescence level is going up. At the end of 2001, the whole city has a gardening green area of 5,537 hectares, a public green area of 1,600 hectares, and a constructed virescent area of 6,358 hectares, the virescent area covers 38.7% of the whole city.

City Communication

At the end of the year 2001, around the whole city, the totaol built-road area is 1,590,000 square meters and the area of the total built roads reached 1,085 kiliometers, with a total buses and cars 3,059.

Energy

Public causes are developing on all aspects, and the comprehensive service function of Changchun is evidently improved. In 2001, Changchun's water supply factories produced 108 ton per day, and the number of people using piped water in the lay-out reached 20,260, the gas supply reached 262,980,000 cubic meters, with 120.8 households in town using coal gas.
