This is the first color image of Mars taken by the panoramic camera on the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit released by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California January 6, 2004. It is the highest resolution image ever taken on the surface of another planet.  [nasa.gov]
