Highlights of the work report on the Supreme People's Court

2016年，最高人民法院受理案件22742件，審結(jié)20151件，比2015年分別上升42.3%和42.6%。
The SPC handled and concluded 22,742 and 20,151 cases respectively last year, up 42.3 percent and 42.6 percent from 2015.

地方各級(jí)法院受理案件2303萬(wàn)件，審結(jié)、執(zhí)結(jié)1977.2萬(wàn)件，結(jié)案標(biāo)的額4.98萬(wàn)億元，同比分別上升18%、18.3%和23.1%。
Its lower courts at different levels, meanwhile, handled and concluded 23.03 million and 19.77 million cases in 2016, also up 18 percent and 18.3 percent respectively.

各級(jí)法院審結(jié)貪污賄賂等案件4.5萬(wàn)件6.3萬(wàn)人，其中，被告人原為省部級(jí)以上干部35人，廳局級(jí)干部240人。
China's court system concluded 45,000 graft cases in 2016, implicating 63,000 people. The defendants included 35 former officials at the provincial and ministerial level or above, and 240 at the prefectural level.

加大對(duì)行賄犯罪懲治力度，判處罪犯2862人。為脫貧攻堅(jiān)提供司法服務(wù)，堅(jiān)決懲處貪污、挪用扶貧資金等犯罪，審結(jié)相關(guān)案件1.5萬(wàn)件。
Courts at all levels convicted 2,862 criminals of bribery, and concluded 15,000 cases involving corruption, embezzling funds and other crimes found in poverty alleviation.

死刑案件核準(zhǔn)權(quán)收歸最高人民法院統(tǒng)一行使十年來(lái)，堅(jiān)持嚴(yán)格控制和慎重適用死刑，確保死刑只適用于極少數(shù)罪行極其嚴(yán)重的犯罪分子。
China's courts only handed out death sentences to an extremely small number of criminals for extremely severe offenses in the past ten years. The capital punishment had been strictly controlled and applied prudently since 2007, when the SPC reserved the right to review all death penalty decisions handed out by lower courts.

服務(wù)創(chuàng)新驅(qū)動(dòng)發(fā)展。制定審理專利權(quán)糾紛案件等司法解釋，完善知識(shí)產(chǎn)權(quán)保護(hù)規(guī)則。
China will step up the trials of intellectual property rights (IPR) cases this year to stimulate innovation and entrepreneurship of diverse entities. In 2016, China improved IPR protection rules by making judiciary interpretations on the trials of certain kinds of cases, including patent right cases.

依法審理“喬丹”商標(biāo)爭(zhēng)議系列案件，彰顯我國(guó)加強(qiáng)知識(shí)產(chǎn)權(quán)司法保護(hù)的立場(chǎng)和決心。
Last year, China tried a series of trademark cases lodged by US basketball icon Michael Jordan, demonstrating the country's stance and determination to reinforce judicial protection for intellectual property rights.

北京、上海、廣州知識(shí)產(chǎn)權(quán)法院探索適用懲罰性賠償，著力解決侵權(quán)成本低、維權(quán)成本高等問(wèn)題。
Three IPR courts in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou explored the application of punitive damages to solve problems including low infringement costs and high costs for safeguarding rights.

南京、蘇州、武漢、成都設(shè)立知識(shí)產(chǎn)權(quán)審判庭，跨區(qū)域集中管轄知識(shí)產(chǎn)權(quán)案件。
Four IPR tribunals, in charge of cross-regional IPR cases, opened in the cities of Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuhan and Chengdu last year.

China has extended its maritime jurisdiction to cover all seas under its jurisdiction in an effort to resolutely safeguard the country's maritime rights and interests.

嚴(yán)懲殺人、搶劫等嚴(yán)重刑事犯罪，依法懲治電信網(wǎng)絡(luò)詐騙等新型違法犯罪，維護(hù)社會(huì)穩(wěn)定。
Courts will strike hard on severe criminal offenses such as murder and robbery, and hand out due sentences for those involved in telecom and Internet fraud, in order to maintain social stability.

立案?jìng)刹槁殑?wù)犯罪47650人。
In 2016, procurators investigated 47,650 people for their suspected involvement in duty-related crimes.

對(duì)令計(jì)劃、蘇榮、白恩培等48名原省部級(jí)以上干部提起公訴。
Prosecution proceedings were launched against 48 former officials at the provincial and ministerial level or above, including Ling Jihua and Su Rong, both former vice chairmen of the country's top political advisory body, and Bai Enpei, a former senior lawmaker with the NPC.

在征地拆遷、社會(huì)保障、涉農(nóng)資金管理等民生領(lǐng)域查辦“蠅貪”17410人。
Procurators also investigated 17,410 lower level officials suspected of corruption in land expropriation and demolition, social security, management of agriculture-related funds and other issues concerning the people's well-being.

自開(kāi)展職務(wù)犯罪國(guó)際追逃追贓專項(xiàng)行動(dòng)以來(lái)，在黨中央堅(jiān)強(qiáng)有力領(lǐng)導(dǎo)下，已從37個(gè)國(guó)家和地區(qū)遣返、勸返外逃職務(wù)犯罪嫌疑人164人，其中包括楊秀珠等“百名紅通人員”27人。
Since China launched a campaign to hunt down fugitives implicated in duty-related crimes in October 2014, 164 suspects, including 27 listed in an Interpol red notice, have been repatriated or persuaded to return to China from 37 countries and regions.
