The first ever Zhongguancun Civilian and Military Integration Challenge Competition launched at Zhongguancun Science Park in Beijing on Sept 16, seeking innovative solutions for civil-military integration.

As a vital part of the Second China Innovation Challenge Competition and the Third National Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation Activity Week's Beijing-themed exhibition, the competition aims to build Zhongguancun Science Park into a demonstrative pilot for military and civilian integration.

Zhongguancun will lead private companies to carry out R&D on cutting-edge technologies, and to produce and provide maintenance for weaponry.

Organizers introduced that the competition has opened door to the country for solutions concerning the transfer of military technology for civil use from September to October. The final and award ceremony will be held in December.

Applicants can visit challenge.chinatorch.gov.cn, www.zgccmichallenges.cn and its official WeChat account to sign up and submit solutions.

"The competition is free for participants, which can be teams and person from private companies, State-owned enterprises, universities, scientific research institutions, social organizations and military universities," said the competition organizer.

Applied projects will be awarded in six key fields, including navigation and communication, perception and recognition, unmanned systems, networking and information security, electric power plants and new mechanism.

Awarded projects of leading technological achievements will be recommended for policy support from Zhongguancun Science Park.

According to the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center of MOST, the competition is designed to build a service platform to meet military demands for leading technologies and innovation teams.

Under the guidance of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Academy of Military Sciences, and National Defence University of People's Liberation Army, the competition is hosted by the Zhongguancun Science Park Administrative Committee and the People's Government of Beijing's Haidian district.

Senior officials, military representatives and experts, and heads of civil-military companies attended the launch ceremony, including Zhang Xu, deputy director of innovation development department of MOST, and Li Jianbo, researcher of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology.
