Abstract: Rich in ecological resources, Hunan province has, in recent years, taken the development of ecological tourism as the leverage to accelerate the value realization of ecological products. Through top-level design, planning guidance and policy support, it has formed a system of multi-type ecological tourism areas, facilitated the development of ecological products’ value, strived for the maximization of eco-product value, and achieved some initial results mirrored in some models. The most typical ones are Pingjiang county’s innovation of an “eco-tourism-poverty alleviation” interactive development mechanism and Yueyang city’s innovation of eco-tourism mode centering on the wetland ecosystem protection in Dongting Lake. The main enlightenments of Hunan’s explorations and practices on the value realization of ecological products are as follows. First, Hunan province has sped up the value realization of ecological products through poverty alleviation and promoted the close combination of ecological environment protection, sustainable resource utilization and poverty alleviation. Second, it has adhered to the principles of “strict protection, overall planning, reasonable development, and sustainable utilization”, in order to ensure the sustainable development of ecological tourism resources with the priority laid on protection.
