The city of Quanzhou, Fujian province seems determined as one of the four branch venues of 2016 CCTV Spring Festival Gala, a special TV show for every China people to watch with whole family on the Chinese New Year's Eve.
Directors of the gala show recently visited Quanzhou and went around the city's attractions including Kaiyuan Temple, the biggest Buddhist temple in Fujian; Quanzhou Maritime Museum, the only museum taking overseas transportation history as special subject in the country; and the ancient house group of Cai Family, one of the typical traditional characteristic of red-brick civil buildings in the province. They also watched local folk performances which showed the strong features of southern Fujian.
Unlike previous years, the 2016 CCTV Spring Festival Gala will have one main venue in Beijing, and four branch venues in Xi'an, Shanxi province; Shenzhen, Guangdong province; Hulun Buir, Inner Mongolia and Quanzhou, Fujian province. The main venue and four branch venues will celebrate the traditional festival together with the worldwide Chinese via television and Internet. Directors said that each city has its unique features, and how to show them in a better way needs more work and discussion.
Quanzhou is the biggest migration source of many Overseas Chinese in Taiwan and about 6 million people whose ancestors were from Quanzhou now live overseas. The city is also the start of Maritime Silk Road. And by hosting some cultural events, like the 14th Asia Arts Festival and two sessions of the International Maritime Silk Road Arts Festival, Quanzhou has gained fame around the world.
Since the news of Quanzhou to be one of the branch venues for CCTV gala show has spread out, locals have expressed their willingness to support it on the Internet.
