The 3rd Economic Cooperation Forum in the Central Plain for Overseas Chinese opened in Pingdingshan, Henan province, on Sept 19. More than 1,000 representatives from about 30 countries and regions attended the forum.

This year’s forum focused on the development of the Central Plain Economic Zone and measures for the post-financial crisis. More effort will be made to cooperate with overseas Chinese and domestic and foreign enterprises in the areas of economy, science, technology and culture.

The forum released 1,532 cooperation projects on New & Hi-Tech, machine manufacturing, infrastructure, and tourism. On the first day, 43 cooperation agreements were signed, with a total investment of 43.16 billion yuan.

Pingdingshan has a solid industrial foundation. Through more than a half century’s development, it has become an industrial city focusing on energy and raw materials and comprehensively developing coal, electric power, metallurgical, chemical, textile and building material industries.

The city now has more than 40,000 industrial enterprises, including 739 enterprises above designated size. The city is home to China Pingmei Shenma Energy & Chemical Group, the largest enterprise in Henan; Wuyang Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., the largest ultra wide and ultra thick steel plate R&D and manufacturing base in China; Pinggao Group, one of the top three high-voltage switchgear manufacturers in China; Yaomeng Electric Power Co., Ltd., a backbone power plant of Central China Grid; Tianrui Group, the largest new-type dry-process cement producer in Henan, and has more than 850 industrial enterprises above designated size.

Through more than fifty years’ development, Pingdingshan has formed six industrial chains for energy and chemicals, equipment manufacturing, ultra wide and ultra thick steel plates, and so on, and become an emerging comprehensive industrial city. In 2009, the city realized 114 billion yuan of GDP, ranking fourth in the province; and 7.3 billion yuan of general budget revenue of local finance, ranking third in the province.

China Pingmei Shenma Energy & Chemical Group was formed through reorganization of the former Pingdingshan Coal Mining Group and China Shenma Group. In 2010, it ranked 75th among the top-500 enterprises in China and third in coal mining industry in terms of sales revenue; Wuyang Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. is China’s production and R&D base of ultra wide and ultra thick steel plates and has world leading technology for ultra thick steel; Pinggao Group is one of the top three high-voltage electrical apparatus manufacturers in China and has leading UHV technology in China; Tianrui Group is the largest cement producer in Henan and its capacity of new-type dry-process cement has reached 1200t.

Yaomeng Electric Power Co., Ltd., Baofeng Liquor Industry (Group) Co., Ltd., Henan Sinoma Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. and CNSIC Haolong Salt and Chemical Co., Ltd. also enjoy certain popularity in China. The city produces more than 1300 kinds of industrial products under 11 categories. Nine products including raw coal, power generation and cord fabric rank in the first place in the province in terms of output.
