The vision for future of the Cross-Straits (Kunshan) Trade Cooperation Zone was presented at Huaqiao International Service Business Park on Jan 31.

Guan Aiguo, secretary of the Kunshan Municipal Party Committee, along with Lu Jun, the deputy secretary of Kunshan Municipal Party Committee, and other government officials were present at the meeting.

At the first meeting, the Federation of Taiwan Industries and the Kunshan Taiwan Commodity Center Development Co Ltd gave a report on the overall plan for the Cross-Straits (Kunshan) Trade Cooperation Zone. The plan breaks the development of the zone down into “five centers” and “nine functions”. It also includes cultural elements and encourages industries to upgrade infrastructure.

Guan said that planners need to develop a more concrete idea about the future development of the cooperation zone, and evaluations of the progress of the project must be clearer. He said the planning and construction of the cooperation zone need to be further improved and optimized in terms of general layout, functional matching, transportation and environmental protection.

He said it is important for all related departments to strengthen communication and cooperation, closely integrate planning and cooperation within the zone with support from upper-level authorities, and form a unified force to drive the zone’s development.

Lu Jun said the overall level of the planning needs to be raised. Lu said plans must incorporate more urban elements and accelerate the construction of the cooperation zone under the guidance of an overarching scheme.

At the meeting, Huang Yong, Han Wei, Xia Xiaoliang and other leaders of the city as well as the Xiamen Municipal Commission of Development and Reform and related departments gave opinions and suggestions.
