Guyang county is located in the central part of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region and the northern side of Yinshan Mountain.

It covers an area of 5,025 square kilometers and contains a population of 213,000. The rural population of Guyang county is 177,000, which accounts for 83.1 percent of the county’s total population.

It has 2.84 million mu (1893.33 sq km) of cultivated land and a 1.8 million mu annual planting area. The main crops that are cultivated in the district include potatoes, wheat, buckwheat and corn.

The county is abundant in mineral resources. Over 50 minerals have been excavated in the county, including 1.1 billion tons of iron, 500 million tons of quartz and 220 million tons of dolomite. Other minerals, such as gold, magnet, coal, pearlite and vermiculite have also been found there. The total reservation of wind energy has reached 5 million kilowatts, with a developable capacity of two million kilowatts.

It is home to part of the Great Wall, which was constructed in Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC). Other tourism attractions in the district includes the site of Huaishuo town from Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 386-534), the Ma’an Mountain primeval forest and the largest underground defense engineering in Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

In 2012, Guyang County was honored as one of the “Top 200 demonstration counties for great investment potential” in China, becoming the only entry in Baotou.

Guyang county will focus on the development of its key industries, draw more attention to the improvement of the basic conditions of economic development, enhance the quality of industrial development and improve people’s livelihoods.
