Wuxi is the birthplace of China's microelectronics industry and a production base of its microelectronics industry. Its microelectronics takes up 25 percent of the industry in China. The integrated circuit (IC) industry is a representative and competitive industry of Wuxi New District, excelling at the industrial scale and technical skills in the country. They formed a complete industrial chain involving design, manufacturing, on-site tests and supplementing supporting.
The former Wuxi New District, now known as Wuxi Xinwu district or Wuxi National Hi-tech district, was founded in 1992 and underwent administrative changes in 1995, 2002 and 2005.
