Constructors were laying rocks at the petal-shaped Hero Square on June 10, 2012, according to the report at the construction site. The square in the new town of Dandong is expected to be put into use by the end of August.

As a landmark project in Dandong, the Hero Square in the new town covers an area of 16.18 hectares with a total investment of 83 million yuan ($13 million). The ground works and greening projects have been completed since construction began in March 2011. As much as 80 percent of the stone-flooring work has also been finished, leaving whitewashing to be done for four square affiliated buildings.
