A 197-year-old banyan tree, which is under the government's strict protection, in Qingyuan, Guangdong province, is coming "back to life" after it was injected with a special nutrient elixir weeks ago.

The ancient tree, situated in the city's Fengcheng neighborhood, had stood bare for years due to indirect sunlight reflecting from the glassy skyscrapers a distance away.

A group of forestry experts injected the chemical into the tree a few weeks ago, following which it has started budding again.
